Toyota Prius #2

It has been 5 months since changing over from a truck to our first Toyota Prius. We have put 5,800 miles on the car and are averaging 44 miles per gallon. Our gas bill has dropped from $1,200 per month to $120 per month. That is right, 90% drop. Part of that has to do with the drop in gas but the miles per gallon went from 14 to 47 mpg. We just purchased our second Prius. Now look out for a dark gray and red Prius checking up on the jobs.

In efforts to reduce our impact on the environment, reduce our overhead costs, put into practice the L.E.E.D. education we have just purchase our first Toyota Prius. We are selling our trucks to go with more affordable vehicles. This is our first of 2 Prius's. Each one of our superintendents will be driving green toyota Prius's.

L.E.E.D. stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. Mark has taken a graduate level course at U.S.C. regarding L.E.E.D.

The first live webcam was just completed and installed in Oak Shores on Lake Nacimiento. We created the website, installed the camera, and maintain the website. Many people in the community are already accessing the website regularly. Some are considering using this technology to view their docks or to just see their lake view from their house.

Check out the Live webcam #1 page.

Combining Offices

In 2000, after 25 years of being open, J.M. Construction closes the Southern California Office and moves all operations to Paso Robles. The company is now 100% focused on the Central Coast of California. J.M. Construction also moved its 4 employees from Southern California to Paso Robles. The move was motivated by Mark Marshall getting married in 2000 and having the desire to start a family in Paso Robles.

Adding Webcam's

In 2007, JM Construction came across a need to have job-site webcams. After extensive research they found that Stardot offered the best solution. JM Construction purchased some websites and are now dealers for Stardot Technologies. These webcams are fully housed and are even used by the federal and local governments. With a solar package and webcam package these can be placed just about anywhere.

In 2008, JM becomes a dealer for SunWize Solar. They have had solar added to many projects in the past and with the education that Mark Marshall brought to the company we decided that it was a perfect fit. Check out the Solar Division website and check back regularly for photo's of projects.

Adding Central Vacuum's

In 2002, J.M. Construction becomes dealers for M.D. Manufacturing. M.D. Manu. is the leading central vacuum (CV) manufacturer in the country. They have been making CV's longer then any manufacturer. We added them because they have the best CV's on the market. Prior to 2002 JM was having local installers install these CV's in their homes in Southern California dating back to the 1980's. We decided it was time that we install these ourselves.

Gary's Tuxedo Earthquake Retrofit

In 1996, after 10 years of working for Gary's Tuxedo, building some of their rental locations and remodeling their corporate headquarters JM starts a 5 month, extensive earthquake retrofit in their factory. This project consisted of all work being performed at night. Major dust control and product protection was required. All work could not affect the production of the factory. All work had to be performed using ladders. There was no access for forklifts or scissor-lifts.

A typical work-night started at 8pm and ended at 4:30am. The workers would cover all equipment and product in their work areas, set-up the ladders and scaffold, set-up and turn on the dust control system, and start working. At 4am the would start cleaning up and have everything back how they found it the previous night. This went on for months.

At then end of the project only one tuxedo jacket had epoxy get on it.

Mark Marshall continues to operate the Southern California Office while Jim Marshall operates the Central Coast Office.
